I am kind of conflicted with the size of the Note. On one hand it would be great for browsing while I'm in the bus or subway which I take when I don't ride my bike to work. Browsing, messaging while on public transit is where I find a smartphone or even a tablet very convenient.
On the other hand I am not sure how "pocketable" the Note is. Also using it as a phone kind of borders on looking funny... unless you have a bluetooth headset. Also I think it might be too big to use as my cell phone when I am cycling as it might not fit in the back pockets of my cycling jersey. BTW, my iPhone is encased in an Otterbox defender which has proved its worth in at least 2 occasions where I got involved in bike crashes. It looks ugly but is very secure.
Around the time I started this thread I actually ended up going to Walmart intending to buy a Nexus 7 8GB version ($199), but they were sold out, just like pretty much every store around.
Well I just did a little Googling and I'm glad I didn't buy it, because it turns out the 8GB model was discontinued, and the 16GB model, which used to be $249, is now selling for the same price as the 8GB model did -- $199. The 16GB memory card is apparently noticeably faster than the 8GB one too. Also it now comes with an SD card slot.
I still probably won't be buying anything at this point though.
Yeah, I know -- I'm still planning on getting a smartphone at some point before getting a tablet, if I even GET a tablet, which isn't really that high on my priority list.
Also I may have actually tried to buy the Nexus 7 prior to making this thread, I forget now. But anyway.
But yeah, I initially only wanted to get the Nexus 7 because I wanted a GPS and the Nexus 7 does GPS and a ton of other stuff for not much more. But a smartphone would be so much more convenient. I'd always have it on me; when I arrived at my destination I could just stuff it back in my pocket without having to try and hide it so nobody considered stealing it, etc.
I've not really been looking at smartphones lately but again I really want something with a stellar camera and one that's super fast at taking pictures. As in when you launch the camera app it launches FAST and when you press to take the photo it takes and saves it FAST with no delay.
At this point I haven't really found too much that jumps out at me. There's the Nokia 808 PureView which is new, but it's expensive at about $520 and it runs Symbian, which seems kinda meh. I'd rather have something that runs Android or Windows Phone 8. More people using it, they're "hot" right now, etc.
