I find that mostly fans of teams that are left by the wayside are the ones who bitch loudest about other team's high payroll. You seldom see a fan who's team is in first place complain about other team's spendiness.
Funny thing about Cecil Fielder, when his Toronto contract expired, some mucky-muck in the Toronto front office publicly dismissed any notion of re-signing him, stating he was "a non-athlete". So, he played a season or so in Japan before coming to the Tigers...then became the first player since George Foster (1977) to hit 50+ home runs in a single season.
Well, clearly the word 'cowardliness' is your subjective opinion. Which you are entitled to. And (predicting that common ground here is impossible) I'll leave it at that.
