There is a double standard that exists. I guess I understand the mindset... to a degree.
Males striving to be very big and strong is considered good because that mass is useful not just for attracting females (which is fine when males do it), but for more "practical" purposes like fighting, working, etc.
Females striving to be thin and slender is considered bad and shallow because they're obviously only doing it to attract males.
The problem is the generalizations. Just because females are thin doesn't mean they're doing it for shallow reasons. "Normal sized" chubby women might not agree, but I think it is pretty much a scientific fact that, *to a degree*, the thinner you are, the healthier you are, and that extra flab that "normal women" have just isn't healthy. And being a "normal woman" in this day and age isn't really something to be proud of what with obesity rates skyrocketing and the average weight rising with it.
I think a lot of these women who hate that "real women" aren't represented in the media etc. are probably jealous and feel threatened. That said, I also feel that Barbies, thin OR fat, are kind of weird and maybe not necessarily the best thing for little girls to be playing with.
