Maybe his space reserved for System Restore is really large, because it doesn't do that for me; mine is at the default max usage of 2%, which ends up being 10GB, and only 8GB is being used. I just checked again and the restore points are still the same, one on the 28th and another on the 21st, and I've rebooted plenty of times since my last post in this thread.
It could also be when he was observing System Restore's functionality, he was also making system changes, so System Restore was in effect creating a restore point for each boot... but not because he was rebooting per se, but because system changes were made.
Reading his chapters on privacy and security have, in particular, been very very helpful.
He pretty much spells out how lame the Microsoft firewall is for outgoing traffic, why it's lacking, and suggests some interesting alternatives.
And his discussion about building a digital media center PC, including clever suggestions for dealing with digital rights over protection, area good read as well.
As far as the built in Windows experience benchmarks, my CPU rates a 6.7, Memory 6.1, Hard disk 5.9, Gaming graphics 6.1, and standard desktop graphics a measely 4.7.
I'm surprised about both graphics ratings, Surprised My onboard video does so well at the gaming rating, while doing so poorly on the standard desktop graphics tests.
it's amusing the first few times you use it....after you get used to it ...it's more like a "bad video driver" experience.
All in all, I'm happy with the value I got for my $299. It's called a "notebook" pc, which I always thought was supposed to be smaller than a standard lappy.
Not so with this one, as I mentioned I've had fits trying to find carry cases big enough, that are full featured and affordable. Also, carrying this thing around for very long would get old. But, I get a lot of attention from people when I'm in Starbucks, etc. They see the size and come for a closer look.
