How cluttered is your desktop?
Not your real one, your virtual one.
I just cleaned mine off last night, finally. (It's been at least 6 months since the last time I did it.) About a third of it, if not more, was covered in icons -- about 150, mostly downloaded files and extracted files/folders -- I used only once, maybe twice.
So I selected and moved all that crap into the folder I dumped all the crap into last time I cleaned up and ahhhh... it looks SO much nicer now. Now there are only 14 icons, and if I really wanted to I could pare it down to half that.

When I moved I had to flip my workstation because the way I had it had the hutch on the right side, and in the new place that would block a window where I put the desk, so I rebuilt it with the hutch on the left side, so now the computer has to be on the right side, and my cables were not long enough to use all three monitors like before. I'll rectify it come spring.
Now, with my lappy, I've got only the waste bin, a URL link to my web storage account, and a folder containing shadows to specialized ASUS utilities that came with the laptop.
All the other stuff (graphics apps, office, security apps, system tools, etc) I now keep in a highly structured custom set of nested directories in the "user" segment of my start menu.
