Being a good person and moral, although good things in themselves, does not make anyone a Christian. The only way for a person to be a Christian is to have a relationship with Jesus. The only way to have that relationship with Jesus is to be forgiven of your sins by Jesus.
I am not really sure where you got the idea that Christians think that you must be a Christian to be a "good" person or be moral. You can have both those things but it does not make you any less a sinner or any less in need of forgiveness of those sins.
Techguy, I only have what you think is a quote of what the Pastor said. It seems likely to me that he said that well we used to be unbelievers and some of our happiness came only out of a pill or bottle, now, our Joy, that is Christians Joy, come from Christ and being able to deal with reality head on. Some may claim to be Christian like some claim being an American means you are a Christian or claim they have a religion.
A true Christian is someone who is spiritually reborn and that can only come from Christ and Christ alone. Oh, and one last comment Techguy, what you suggest up in one of your posts is nothing short of religious persecution. If you think you can blame "religion" for these violent attacks, you are incorrect.
Basically, what is the one thing common to religious and nonreligious groups have? Answer: people! The problem is in the heart, not a claim about some certain group of people.
