So, yeah, if the host wants you to win, he can just hint which door has the prize before the camera is turned on. If the host removes the crap door to help you, you are a fool if you don't go where he's leading you. But, you don't know if the ratings want more winners today or more losers. You don't know if Monty likes you or not. You don't know if Monty removed the prize door or the crap door. If you are unsure of what his part is in all of this, you are back to 50/50.
They pick those who would have some interesting characteristics to have the audience want them to win (or lose). It's all about Show Business. I'm sure some actors got their career start this way.
If you do know something really well - like physics or biology - you might get a chance on some show that would ask you questions about your subject. There is the appeal of watching a prize show that actually teaches you obscure facts about a subject.
But, since it's all worked out beforehand, you'd probably get to study more general facts by getting the study book for the SAT exam. I used to go after this form of information as a way to learn more about the world. Now, it doesn't matter so much.
You don't get paid for what you know. It's only if you can put it to use for someone trying to build or discover some new idea. Consulting pays well. But, they've got to know that you can help them find what they're looking for. You need to find them.
Face it, life's options always boil down to 50/50.. you'll win or you'll lose, you'll get the job or you wont, you'll be healthy or you'll get sick. You'll live, or you'll die.
Actually, the odds of the last one are 100% that you'll die.. eventually.
