Cng, I disagree with your premise that getting rid of the Government will just magically install a free market. You still have failed to show how a large country can stay financially stable if there is no one protecting rights and doing what governments have done since we figured out how to live in groups. Who would install this system? I keep asking.
The free market mentality was attempted in "Lord of the Flies." That's a good book about what happens when there is a lack of organization within an isolated group.
Sure, the government becomes Big Brother as the country prospers and the financial numbers get bigger. If we were not as big and powerful, we wouldn't appeal to greed as we have today. There are many ideas to limit the power of the government in the Constitution. This problem is not something new.
The free market idea is another approach that could work under certain conditions. China and India are figuring out how to prosper too. They also have been trying differing systems of governing.
Some country will rise to the top. It's not really about the system we use to fix the roads. It's about how people learn to live together - or not.
The die is cast. The deal is done. Governments have all been marginalized by international corporations. These corporations develop communications technologies to gain/retain power. These communications technologies are advancing exponentially and are already out of the control of any group of corporations and way beyond the control of governments.
Wikileaks has proven that machines don't forget. And our future is out of control.
WikiLeaks and Facebook are minor changes compared to what is to come when the UI is IN our heads and not on any screen. Think games, dating, team problem solving.....
We are what we build. An artifact is something made by humans. It is all art. We create the world we see. And we build and rebuild and expand the hive.
The populace isn't organized at all. They just do what they are used to doing. If something changes - like the government - the populace would just find new things to complain about. The companies they all work for would fold until the populace voluntarily ordered services from them.
If this is to come about peacefully, how would the remaining companies even get out the word that they are there? Would they pay the news media to put out ads? How long would it take for the population to realise that they now have a whole new set of priorities - hire a defense army to protect the property, hire the road crew, install those TV cameras, hire someone to watch the cameras to insure security, get some dogs, (maybe the ASPCA still has some now that it's not in business any more) etc.
The world as we know it would be changed in every way. The rules of how things are done would have to be discussed and figured out locally.
Of course, the population wouldn't have a vote about this system being installed. What if they wanted to go back to the government & tax system? They could voluntarily abstain from entering this system. But, the garbage wouldn't get picked up automatically. The fires wouldn't get put out unless the owner had the forethought of hiring the fire fighters before it started. All the things the government provides would be voluntary. Do you know which lawyer would be good for you? Do you know which doctor, which car repairman, etc. It would take a lot of time for it all to settle. The dishonest guys could advertise lies about themselves and do a lot of damage before they were found out. Would there be a website where the bad guys would be labelled as such?
