I had a close encounter with a spider the other day. I was walking in between two trees that were close together when I run smack dab into a spiderweb. How annoying, and I pray that it was JUST a spiderweb that I walked into, and subsequently work on getting it off me, also trying to feel for a spider...
After I'm done that and don't feel anything, I whip out my flashlight, shine it on what I walked through, and see a massive spiderweb spanning both trees. And to my relief -- since I wasn't positive there wasn't a spider on me -- I saw a pretty scary looking spider (that looked bright yellow when the light was shining on it -- as in yellowjacket bee yellow, with some black markings too) right in the center, and every single part of the web just below the spider was GONE. Meaning I was apparently basically millimeters from running into the spider itself and having it transfer onto me, which would have been terrible.
Do you kill the centipedes? Apparently they eat spiders, so it would be interesting to see if the spider suddenly "disappeared" if you just let the centipedes go for a bit (easier said than done of course). I still have spiders and webs in my place, but I also kill centipedes as soon as I see them...
It would be interesting to actually see a centipede eat something. The only thing I ever see them do is run.
As much as our cold winters suck, it's nice to know that nothing else survives up here during that time. When you live near the equator, death comes in a million different and nasty ways.

Down came the rain, and washed the spider out
