I'm leaning more towards A because of the rifle and med kit. Fire is essential, and I have serious doubts as to weather I could get a fire started w/o some sort of starting kit (though I have seen Les Stroud start a fire w/ a rifle - not that I could repeat that lol), so that makes B very attractive. I wonder if the survival book would like the local island medicinal herbs and plants? If not, I might have to stick w/ the med kit, though that box is hugh and cumbersome looking.
Here is what doesn't make sense on B to me... If you can easily start a fire, you can boild your own water. So the purifying pills almost seem like a waste. I think I'm going to stick w/ A.
That's the thing about the rifle for me too. I would be afraid to continuously venture around the island looking for bullets. I would be putting myself in too much danger crossing into unknown dino territories. I agree with you that C is the least attractive. I can certainly service w/o rope, and the ax would be the most handy of the cutting tools. It's the rifle that does it for me though. For me it comes down to the rifle vs the easy fire starter. Which would be more likely to save my life?
I think my ultimate goal would be to climb to the highest point I can, and set out some type of signal. Like a large X or something. And I would have a giant bundle of sticks ready to light on fire should I see some sort of aircraft.
Yeah, I was going to say I still think A is the best option purely for the rifle just for the ability to hunt small game. I don't know about you guys, but my skill in hunting and trapping game w/o a gun is zero. If I had to rely on that w/o a gun, I would be eating grass and tree bark.
You can make other weapons with the axe and you need wood to make fire. With the axe you can build traps and fashion spears for food. Cutting utensils can easily be fashioned from stones.
Water purification pills are essential. Even if you have fire to boil water, what do you put it in? If you do find something to boil in you still have the option in case a fire isn't possible. Lack of water will kill you in a few days and our decision making process can be affected within 24 hours.
The fire starter is obvious. Without fire you're extremely limited.
The medikit and rifle are minimally useful IMO. Many herbs are natural antiseptics and supply could be virtually unlimited while the medikit is limited.
Without an abundant supply of ammo the gun is useless and could actually draw attention to your location.
The rope would be useful, but being on a tropical island would mean that there are plenty of vines and other materials that can be fashioned into a rope.
The survival manual would be minimally useful I think. We need shelter, food and water to live. If you can't figure out how to get those things within a few days a book isn't going to help much.

I like the idea of starting a fire from the gun powder. One could also use the gun powder to cauterize wounds too, right?
