I'd go on Craig's list and look around for the vehicle you want. If safety is such an issue and you gotta have all that metal, buy a used one. That's from the financial point of view. No matter what they say in the ads, all cars can still have a blown tire, the radiator fan can stop turning, the computer can get disconnected from a sensor. Does gas mileage have anything to do with this discussion? Can you afford to be safe as you want? Get a limo and have him do the driving in the big, heavy car. If you lease it, you borrowed the car and put on a few miles for a lot of loot. It still needs maintenance and oil changes. Would you be going to the dealer every few weeks to fix this or that while you wait in the room? You could just buy a used vehicle, get a manual and follow the proposed maintenance schedule. You'll know a bit about what's happening and learn about mechanix.
My daily driver is a 1992 Lincoln Town Car. Been driving this car almost 20 years. have no clue what it's safety rating is, but it's been pretty safe for me. Never been in an accident with it and I don't plan to any time soon. The only way I'll get into an accident is if something unseen falls from the sky.
I've been in several accidents in my youth when I was dumb and drank and drove home, or would just drive around for fun with guys and gals in the car goofin off and not paying attention to driving.
You're going to be looking at damn near $200 a month for insurance, being young and a single guy, add to that another $150 or so for gas.. I dunno what you make a week, but it's quite possible you can't afford a car, even if one was given to you.
