Oh and yeah, 4GB is definitely not enough RAM if you want to run a guest OS and a host OS simultaneously and you need to give the guest 2GB of RAM. Lots of swapping going on.
While I only used it very briefly yesterday, I don't "get" Windows 8. I know Microsoft's not stupid (or are they), but it just seems a little crazy to get rid of the start menu and make even someone who's fairly knowledgeable with computers confused about how to run "native" (non-fullscreen, non-touch-oriented, non-Metro) apps. It almost feels like something designed for a tablet rather than a desktop...
I guess only time will tell but I don't like what I see so far. Maybe if I took more time to play around with it. I can easily see most users being totally clueless as to what to do now that the start menu is gone though, especially since that's how I was.
I did not skip Vista at all. Admittedly, I had to get used to it and what UAC was all about, but once I did that, I found it ran much faster than XP on the same hardware. Once I went to 4GB of ram in my desktop and laptop in 2008, I then neeeded to go to 64bit which definitely meant Vista. Windows 7 is even better but Vista was good.
Also, I will not be skipping Windows 8 and actually like the Preview. However, since it is not yet a stable OS, 7 will be what I use for the time being.
Fast booting, highly stable, works with old programs and is set for new ones. Big thing is, although I enjoy it on my desktops, I like it even that much more on the tablet I just purchased. (Acer W500)
I thought that 'Minority Report' showed how better interaction could be. Tom Cruse made it look easy as an intelligent interface. Of course the interface was with the underwater beings that were intelligent too. But, it made talking to the computer a little less typing the right words and a little more like a dance that one can learn.
