With lipo, especially lower quality ones, the tell-tale sign that there is a problem is when the cells puff after use. This is also usually accompanied by the lipos being relatively hot when you take them out after use.
I never had this problem so far with all the lipos I have been using ranging from 1 cell to 6 cells. However, I do buy lipos from name brands... Eflite and Align 3 cells for my 450 class helis and Gens Ace and Pulse Ultras 6 cells for my 500 class helis. For the bigger lipos, I also buy those with at least a 35C discharge rate.
I also balance all my multi-cell lipos everytime I charge them. These is a feature of good lipo chargers... mainly assuring that you don't over charge one cell (dangerous) when charging the pack.
Justification? I felt like doing it, and wanted to make it impossible for the anti graffiti team to just paint it away.
Inkscape is another good free graphics program.
I mostly use gimp to stitch together panarama groups, and to combine multiple images via layers and transparency. I've also been playing around with the SIOX tool just for fun, hoping that eventually I'll get good at it. And, I just recently discovered the perspective clone tool, which will allow me to do some tasks I've always wanted to be able to do, but could never quite figure out how to perform.
I've put GIMP, Inkscape, CADLibre, Greenfish, several different web browsers, and beaucoup utilities (file comparators, etc) onto a flashdrive, that way the apps, their settings, my preferences, and the work product are always with me when I need them.
Using a feature set called "portable apps" which is very convenient. However since many of them are auto-updating, I worry that an unscrupulous developer could incorporate a key logger into his app and have the output sent to him during the automatic upgrades, potentially giving him my e-mail account, banking account, etc. So I won't even put that particular flash drive in a PC if I'm planning on doing anything too "PERSONAL" in the same session.
