Not yet, they're using a crappy old CRT until they figure out what to do next. Repairing this LCD would be preferable, if it's even possible / inexpensive.
If it was trash 8 years ago, it's even more so now. Chuck it out and buy a new one. $150 will buy a decent one. Tell Pops to quit thinking and go buy one.
Upon closer inspection, it looks like the CCFL plugs on that eBay item might be smaller than the ones my LCD monitor uses. I found one for $6 on Amazon but same story. Also a reviewer on Amazon said that it burned out pretty quickly, but it could have been a fluke or a problem with his monitor.
Now, I was actually able to find an exact replacement, but that's going to run me $16. Then it becomes a matter of would it be cheaper to just find a used replacement... especially since it could either be the inverter or the power supply board.
Yeah and I would imagine I could probably use this "new" LCD monitor's power inverter and put it in the old one if I really wanted to, as long as it has the same number of CCFL connectors.
