No, it is not free, you are in control, at least of this forum. You are a benevolent master, but only because you choose to be. You could change your mind and start blocking people or content and all we could do is quit and look for another, more benevolent master or one or more of us could start our own kingdom.
If this was a free system, any of us could change the layout and rules anytime we wanted--and that would be chaos.
Now add 500,000,000 people to your system (Facebook) and things really get interesting!

I prefer the dynamic width. I don' think you should waste your time trying to recreate CPU's style. This is just fine.
